Respect creativity. Challenges enrich our lives. C.K UGG Assistant Store Manager
Determined to take on the challenge of turning weakness into strength
I started dancing when I was in high school, graduated from a dance college, and worked as a professional dancer for two years while also doing part-time jobs. I was convinced that I did my best at that time, and started to think about being an ordinary employee of a company. Because I love fashion, I focused on the apparel industry during my job search. I joined Deckers Japan because I wanted to work for UGG, one of my favorite brands I have been using regularly. Since then, Six years have passed in the blink of an eye.
Since joining the company, I have been working on handling my tasks at hand every day so that I can acquire job skills as a sales associate. About three years ago, I was asked if I would like to become a team leader. Up until then, I was acting with an individual mindset, whether being a dancer or working at UGG. I felt that my weakness lay in my lack of a awareness of management skills and ideas such as developing human resources. But when I was asked to become a team leader, I made a decision to take on the challenge, and persevered to study hard so that I could turn my weakness into strength.
Fair and equal communication skill is the strength
When I was building my experience as a team leader, in 2023, I was included as one of the opening staff of UGG Tokyo Flagship, the second flagship store of the brand in the world, and engaged in the operation of the store. And now, I have been the assistant store manager for about three months. I think I have become able to think various things more widely, compared to the days when I worked as a team leader. For example, a store with good atmosphere naturally influences customers to also have a smile on their faces. And it’s the staff members who can create such good atmosphere. I'm constantly thinking about how we can create an environment where our staff can work freely and independently. There are many staff members with a wide variety of characters at UGG Tokyo Flagship. Words that were able to persuade one person may not always touch others’ hearts as well. I value careful one-on-one communication and work through trial and error.
I believe that my strong point is that I can deal with others fairly and equally, and can explain things properly and logically without being overemotional. I guess such buildup of my efforts was recognized to be assigned to work as the assistant store manager. I will continue my efforts supporting the growth of each staff member, and try to enhance the appeal of UGG Tokyo Flagship even more.
Learning something new and taking on a challenge will add richness to your life
I am in charge of the role of VMD (visual merchandising). To be specific, I develop a strategy for conveying the concept and image of the brand effectively, using the displays and product layouts, to create the sales floor. How the products are shown is left entirely up to VMD. It is really fantastic when the products I want to sell actually sell well with the display layout I thought of. Also, when the staff members see the display and say “How pretty!” , it makes me feel really motivated. Everybody wants to work at a pretty store. I respect creativity, and in that term, the job of VMD is truly a creation of something tangible from ground zero. Of course, that cannot be achieved only by myself. It can be realized with the help of the staff members who are also in charge of VMD, and other members cooperating with us. It is such an exceptional pleasure to bring the visual that was in my mind to realization by everyone expressing their opinions freely.
I feel pride in being entrusted of the role of VMD of UGG Tokyo Flagship, the first flagship store of the brand in Asia. Sometimes the members of headquarters in California come to the store, and I would like to continue with my challenge by constantly introducing new sensations, so that we can hear the words of praise from them. I think such efforts add richness not only to your job, but also to your life.
My favorite pair of shoes
The rounded, plump form, the colors with orange accent in the soft tone peculiar to UGG, and the light and comfortable feeling when worn...everything is perfect! I love these shoes, and this one is the second pair. Because it uses zip-up instead of laces, the appearance is tight and stylish. It is also functionally excellent, because you can wear them easily by zipping up with only one hand while your other hand is occupied like when you are walking your dog.
