Japan is the place I grew up in until the age of 7, and I have full of good memories here. I decided to work in Japan after graduating from university in UK. I first joined a foreign-affiliated employment agency after graduating, built my career for about four years in that company, and then moved to Deckers. It was right in the middle of the COVD-19 pandemic. My previous work was fulfilling, as I was engaged in both BtoB and BtoC in the area of personnel affairs, but at the same time, I was feeling somewhat pressed, wanting to take on challenges and achieve even more growth, considering my future career plan. That motivated me to seek a new job. My goal was to find a workplace where you can feel empowered and succeed regardless of the years of employment, age, background, or gender, and I focused my target on companies in consumer products and apparel businesses. Maybe that was because I was working mostly with companies handling intangible commercial products, such as consulting firms and banks. I expected that I could focus more on individuals in companies handling familiar and tangible commercial products. I thought that I could improve myself, the company, and the brand more by being engaged in recruitment and personnel affairs in such companies. Thinking that way, I was full of hope. However, that said, it is difficult to find such a company. But I never imagined that the experience of finding a company that time would become useful after joining this company.

I want to convey the culture of Deckers with my own words.

I imagine that there are many people who have heard about our brands, but do not know Deckers. That was precisely what I was like when I was searching for a new job. UGG, Teva, and HOKA are all well-known brands that have been beloved for a long time, but they are also brands that keep growing and challenging. I believe that is because the concept of “Commit To Create,” which is one of the values of the company, is rooted in the culture of the company. At Deckers, we are required to constantly reexamine the conventional way and pay attention to something new. Therefore, you can take challenges regardless of your years of employment or age, and rather, you are expected to take challenges. I myself proposed “note” shortly after joining the company as a member of staff in charge of recruitment, and the idea actually started. I am writing with my own words with a hope to convey the attractiveness of Deckers to as many people as possible. The personnel affairs department also shares the wish of constantly improving the current state and achieving growth. For example, I am in charge of global training from this year, and newly implemented a training event titled EXPLORE and a leadership training session. These were planned based on opinions gathered through the employees’ survey, which is conducted regularly by Deckers, and is one of the case examples materializing the request from employees for more opportunities and resources for career and skill development.

I realize how it is valuable to be able to be yourself.

We introduced the result of our employees’ survey for the development plan to incorporate opinions from individual employees. Our company respects individuals and gives more discretion to them. I believe that is the secret that makes the organization grow further as a result. Even if you are a manager, if you are in trouble, it is natural to ask, “I can’t figure this out. Let’s think about it together,” or “Please help me.” We are all an individual human being, regardless of our job responsibility. Deckers does not require people to be perfect, but places emphasis on always being humane. That is possible because everyone aims for a big goal, regardless of one’s age, employment history, or position. I think DECKERS VALUE is not a mere value, but is also a culture and way of working. VALUE is not a rule, and is not something that forces you to change your own style. Rather, we want you to add your own colors to the Deckers culture and make it shine even more. I want to transmit such excellent culture to more people! I am also looking forward to talking with you as yourself in interviews for recruitment!

My favorite pair of shoes

It is my favorite because it makes me look really stylish just by wearing it. It’s really comfortable and excellent to put on.
Before joining this company, I was wearing clothes with conservative colors and designs, but once I started wearing the shoes by UGG, I started trying new designs and colors without even noticing myself.
Recently, I have been selecting some bright colors that I never imagined wearing before joining this company, and I am enjoying this transformation of myself.
