Overcoming one’s weak point by setting specific goals

My parents loved UGG, and my father wears a pair of UGG boots even inside the house. Influenced by my parents, I naturally became a great fan of UGG. UGG Tokyo Flagship serves customers in a friendly manner, and everyone makes the best of one’s individuality to communicate with customers in their own style. In my case, I often approach customers by maintaining adequate sense of distance and praising the customer like “Your manicure looks great!” or “Cool outfit!” instead of directly asking “What are you looking for?” because I myself like being served that way. Communicating again with a customer you have already talked to is called “second approach,” but I find it a bit difficult, so I want to overcome that.

Once a month, you set a goal you want to achieve during the month. It is still a few months since I became an exclusive service staff member, and I set specific goals like “Always say thank you to the customer with a smile” or “Talk with the customer during the payment instead of doing it in silence.” You can work in a conscious manner by setting goals. The store manager and other staff members encourage me like “I can see the difference from before!” or “You are becoming able to do it,” which makes me happy.

The gift of words saying “I’ll come again to see you” motivates oneself

There are many customers from abroad visiting UGG Tokyo Flagship. The other day, a Chinese customer who arrived at the store asked me to help selecting a present for their younger brother. Although both of us were not so good at English, I used a smartphone app to serve the customer for about 40 minutes. They purchased both a pair of sneakers and sandals, but he/she was anxious about various things, like “Will the same size be OK for both?” I felt that the customer was worried because you can’t return the products after going back to your own country, so I tried to answer each question sincerely. As a result, when the customer finished shopping, they said to me, “It was a pleasure to see you. I will come again to see you when I come back to Japan.” It made me so happy. I feel that I’m glad working here from my heart when I see a smile on customers’ faces and hear the words of gratitude from them. Although I’m not good at speaking English, I believe I can overcome the language barrier by serving customers with sincerity.

Big goals are generated after you become able to do small, ordinary things without difficulty

In order to enjoy working in a comfortable environment, I think it is highly important that members help each other. I feel a bit awkward in leading others in a task. Rather, I feel more pleasure supporting and helping others. That is why I always say “Please ask me if there is anything I can do to help.” One day, I was asked to help with the makeover of the floor, which was not the area I am in charge of. Usually, that is the job of staff in charge of VMD (visual merchandising), but I guess I was asked because I was always saying “Please ask me if there is anything I can do to help.” I was happy being relied on.

I still have insufficient experience in serving customers, and feel difficulty about many things, but I want to gradually overcome such weak points, become able to do many more things, and build confidence. Believing that big goals are generated after you become able to do small, ordinary things without difficulty, I want to overcome the tasks before me one by one at the moment.

My favorite pair of shoes

It is my favorite pair of shoes that I bought for the first time by myself after staring to work at UGG. I love this trendy platform style, and also the eye-catching UGG logo on the brownish color! The fluffy feeling on your skin is really comfortable, and it feels perfect both with your socks on or off. It’s easy to walk with, so I wear it not only in autumn and winter but also in early spring.
